Your questions, answered

After a short intermission while Google locks me out of my own account and then deletes some of my writing (wow, thanks Google, so helpful), I thought I'd pop in to say hello. Hello! 

Right, I'm back in so here are some answers to your questions! Yay!

"If Anna the sister of Kal's mother, how comes they have the same family name?"
~ good question. Either [1] Kal's parents are divorced and he and his mum chose to revert to the mother's name, Smit, or [2] parents were never married, used mother's name, or [3] are married but used the mother's maiden name anyway. All three options are pretty common in post-patriarchal setups. This is not to diminish marriage itself, which remains a profound and wonderful thing - two people vowing to honour each other will always be an amazing thing to celebrate. Post-patriarchal does not mean anti-man, it just means equality is stronger and therefore naming and marriage tradition stuff is more of a choice than a forced thing like it used to be. This is good news, though it may be a little uncomfortable for those who have traditionally benefited from inequality - or are simply used to it. Progress means change means discomfort.

"I thought that kissing would be a prelude to sexual relationship rather than confirming a serious relationship subsequently. Have times changed so much?"
~ times do change and also stay the same; in this case I think people generally would kiss long before they had sex, but then this is not a normal relationship. It's taboo, and I have used that vibe to keep the comic series 'jumpy', to keep things out of the normal order, keep things slightly 'incorrect' - because the meta narrative of the whole series is that we are broken and out of order and incorrect ... and wonderful and magical and full of joy as well.

"I appreciate how subtle the connection to the STFW world is."
~ it is subtle, but there's also quite a few references. The stone head is key and will become more clearly important from comic #5. Patrick himself is a full character straight out of #OHB #1. Then there is the mandatory Spock pop art haha! Okay yes, it is all pretty subtle, but the tie-in will be increasingly obvious as we go along. Probably.

"The slowly build up tension makes this story so special."
~ Thank you. Yes, quite a few people have commented on that. I think real life is like that, and I think real life is pretty damn sexy, certainly more than porn. I honestly haven't yet decided if they will have sex in comic #5, or if we'll need to wait yet another one! Argh! Haha.

"The saddest part of the story was reading that the scene was 'Roughly based on a true story'"
~ Yes, unfortunately real life is peppered with examples of abuse and misuse of privilege (eg the privilege of physical size, strength, gender or nationality etc), but I don't think we should shy away from exploring the whos and whys of that stuff. The good news, is that I am also including a substantial few real-life experiences that are at the pleasurable end of the spectrum as well. Mmmm. Yummy.

"Hopefully Chun makes another appearance, even if it's just to call back to collect her hundred quid."
~ Yep. It was twenty quid by the end of that conversation, but your point stands ~ I've gone to some considerable effort to make sure we see Chun again, don't worry :)
